The Writers Circle Speaker Series #3
Writing From Your Heart & Soul
a workshop on spiritual writing
With Donna Baier-Stein
December 4, 2011
St. George's Church, Maplewood, NJ
"Rumi says: 'When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.' " said Donna Baier-Stein during her workshop, Writing from Your Heart & Soul, a workshop on spiritual writing on Sunday afternoon, December 4, at St. George's Church in Maplewood, NJ. And participants of the workshop certainly experienced that deep, abiding sense of a river moving through them during the session.

Donna Baier Stein's poetry and prose have appeared in Virginia Quarterly Review, Kansas Quarterly, Prairie Schooner, Washingtonian, and many other journals and anthologies. Her story collection Great Drawing Board of the Sky was a Finalist in the Iowa Fiction Awards; her novel Fortune received the PEN/New England Discovery Award and is now represented by William Morris Endeavor. Donna was a founding editor of Bellevue Literary Review, and currently is the Editor and Publisher of Tiferet: A Journal of Spiritual Literature.

Donna's intention for group was to help participants write with truth and to honor their own definition of the sacred in their writing. She helped the writers through yoga, readings, and discussion as well as insightful prompts to write about what was in their hearts and souls.

"Donna's workshop was wonderfully timed at the start of the hectic holiday season," said TWC Founder/Director Judith Lindbergh. "It was truly a tranquil and transcendent workshop. Donna helped us all remember that we need to breathe deep and embrace our inner spirit, no matter what our cultural or religious beliefs."
